Cantonese (Yue Chinese) is next to Mandarin (Han chinese) one of the most important languages in China. Cantonese is spoken in the Guangdong province, but also in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore Macau and Vietnam. So, if you plan to stay long term in either Guangdong or Hong Kong (or other southern regions), you might have benefit to learn Cantonese (or maybe even both Mandarin and Cantonese).
